The sabal palm (cabbage palmetto)
Is the official state tree
Designated by Florida state
In nineteen-fifty-three.

It thrives in almost any soil
Is used for many a thing.
And some of its known usages are
Medicine, food, landscaping.

The cabbage palm is resistant
To high winds and drought and fire,
Floods, cold, and coastal conditions.
For its looks does never tire,
Supplying that certain profile
That many tend to admire.
