Pop Music R.I.P. Poem by John Carter Brown

Pop Music R.I.P.

Rating: 5.0

Too many players, too many bands
Far too many untalented hands,
Too many albums filling the shops
Too many unsolicited flops;
Too many singers wailing their song
Far too many taggers-along,
Four in the bar with a bass-drum beat
Dull jungle-thudding for tapping your feet.

Just listen to what is on offer today
And you may agree with what I have to say,
There's really naught new on today's music scene
Pop is becoming a shallow has-been;
Too many musical people around
Most of them making the same tired sound,
Two verses, a chorus, a bridge, then repeat,
Perhaps a nice solo to make it complete.

It's hard to find anything not heard before
Pop is becoming a musical bore,
There's only twelve notes in our musical scale
And common chord patterns have now become stale;
And though pop has had a very good inning
The musical meat in the soup is fast thinning,
So let all the elegies soon be petitioned
And pop, very lovingly, be de-commissioned.

You really expressed yourself well here. I know how you feel. I'm still stuck in yesterday's music. Loved your poem!
