Protecting You Poem by Chloee Desormeau

Protecting You

Rating: 4.0

Saying I'll stay,
Insisting it's all okay.
Fighting for my smile,
Stretching over a mile.

Your eyes are filled with fear,
Hands shaking with stress
And even though I'm still here,
This issue is one you continue to press.

I don't know what to tell you anymore,
Only that I'm the same as before
But you just don't listen
And it's like my words are forgotten.

I know you're making sense,
I know I should stop trying
But these moments are just so tense,
And I'm just so sick of crying.

No matter how happy I look,
You just don't fall for it
You just never bite the hook,
Not even a little bit.

But I guess that's okay
Because in the end I need someone like you
I'm so used to pushing it all away
But you're always there to remind me what's true.

You're still nervous,
I can see it in your eyes
I know you've got a purpose,
But there's no way I'm going to compromise.

Right now this is the case,
And I'm aware it's not so good
I just don't want it all in my face,
I don't think anyone would.

Life gets complicated,
But it's our very own
And so even though our hearts are connected,
This is something that is made to be fought alone.

It's not that I don't trust you,
It's that I don't want to drag you down with me,
That I want to keep your smile just about as true
As a smile could ever be.
