Really Very Near Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Really Very Near

Really near

Lives very far in foreign land
But very much live in memory card
Even though seven sees away
We feel she is on the way and soon be back

It is almost nine years
Mind sometimes engulfs with fear
No we don't shed tear
But I hear her

"Papa, papa" I hear her distinctly
As if she is nearby and weeps constantly
"Yes, yes where are you"
I search here and there and look through window

Why did you go there?
I often ask and whisper
I get no clear answer
But I dearly remember

Her mom says nothing
As I might speak something
She says nothing but I read in her eyes
What is use of life when children are not near?

Why don't come down and stay here?
I often ask but don't force her
She has liking for atmosphere and people there
Mostly the old people who comfort her like daughter

I stare at open sky and wonder
What if one star is missing there
The sky never gets short of stars
We feel them far but they are really near
