Refreshing Rains Poem by Jyoti Patil

When heavy dark clouds hover all around
Air spread intense humid fragrance in abound
Breaking dry silence with pitter-patter sound,

Green sprouts seen all over the ground
Soil becomes sticky whether mire or mound
Lightning and thunder scare, hunt and hound.

Stray dogs hide with some hurried bound
Street vendors go without penny or pound
Children with joy and jollity hop all around.

Greens with great respite make fresh ground
Nature filled with new life and freshness abound.

But tarry! Rains have a dark ride
Having also a devastating devilish side,
Incessant and heavy rains wreak havoc
Bringing life to a halt
Daily activities get a jolt.

Floods and flash flood show their draconian dice
Lightning, thunder and chaos on the rise
Human life has to pay a heavy price.

Rains be it soaking soil, earth washing or gentle shower,
Incessant, heavy, deluge, torrential, drizzle or Downpour,
It signifies cleansing, calmness, growth,
Fertility, rebirth and sometimes nature's wrath
