Revolutionary Changes Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Revolutionary Changes

Coming unsuspected.
Warned to arrive.
Without a scheduled date or time.
But detected to expect.

Revolutionary changes.
Even in the midst of them.
Gone to not notice,
Is the when or the where...
They started to begin.
Leaving no one aware or prepared to accept.
Until a feeling of unrest upsets.
A comfort of a normalcy,
Wanted wished left kept protected.

Revolutionary changes.
First subtle.
Then abrupts.
That which had been routine.
Perceived regular and stable.
Suddenly is thought to be,
An intentional disrupting humorless event.
Since nothing to smile about,
Occurs to continue on.

And,
That's how it goes.
When anything new replaces the old.
Like a child unnoticed,
Taking steps to grow...
In directions ignored most take for granted.
To keep memories too long kept to linger.
Remembering to teach that child to say 'hello'.
Then heard to hear to tell someone,
"You're moving too slow.
Get out of my way."
Leaving those disbelieving,
That time has come for them to do just that.
With no choice to make.
Either quicken up the pace.
Of a mindset to awaken it.
Or be left behind.
Reminiscing a past.
Gone to not last forever.
