Save Me From My Dreams Poem by Claire Sanders

Save Me From My Dreams

Save me as I fall, clasp my hand, give me breath,

Be there in my wakesome hours till I drift,

Rescue me from my tormentors of night,

Games, fears, tricks of thine own mind,

Whilst I dream of flying, swimming - anything,

Till this my dream turns bad again,

I'm falling apace, sinking to dark depths,

Lest your arm, your warmth, your very being,

Be the one thing in those dreams I can trust,

The light amidst the darkness  to encompass me,

To hold my gentle hand as we stroll by day,

Defend my honour from nightmrish dragons,

Gigantic monsters and devils, in my sleep I am prey,

Protect me from the bubbling pools of fire,

The squirming souls in black oily seas,

Assure me as I crawl back from the night abyss,

Whisper soft words and blessings in mine ear,

And as dawn approaches fast, may I return to you,

Knowing in my waking or quiet time,

You are always my guiding light, forever by my side.
