Sense Poem by Abhinaba Majumdar

Sense

I wake up to the chirping
Of the morning birds
Makin a tune with words,
As if singing
The midnight fire which shook my world
Ends in that humble sight of spirit
That lay, to this day,
Surreal; that lay indefinite;
That Lay, to my sight, not unfurled.

Once I was lost in the woods of my past
Seeking shelter, seeking company,
Losing time, losing life, losing trust-
Alas!
A strong and abrupt wind!
It blew my hair in a manner not kind
And bad breath struck the mind
With the underlying irony,
And I was redeemed at last!

Once I was walking clumsily by
A meandering stream',
Tired and alone-
The clear waters glistening
Under the city lights that shone.
Oh! The sparkles lit my eyes,
Memories hit my bone:
What a sudden luck of incidence!
All my weariness took flight
And in the blink of an eye was gone.

So, my dear one—
Like a word can break the chain
Of a million moments of silence,
Like a drop-full of welcome rain
Can fill the heart with essence,
A simple act, a change
Might save you from lifelessness
Take long to swallow, that may
Even longer to guess—
But nature always has her way
To gift you back your sense!
