A Friend? Poem by Abhinaba Majumdar

A Friend?

It seems that time has taken a toll on your crazy head,
You seemed so near once; now we have really parted,
But may be for the better, must you stay away, at peace
With your far-fetched dreams and your selfish disease;
Pity that you broke the trend,
You still call yourself a friend?

More of an acquaintance now,
I would like to say
Who comes to the party to flaunt,
And then so covertly walks away
As soon as the rum is gone
How silly of you to have changed,
You still call yourself a friend?

Yet you think that you've grown up,
You've climbed the tree when it was tall
But you delude yourself that way you know,
Cause you're the weakest of us all:
You rise on those shoulders of the strongest kind
And swear to god that you won't fall;
You try to keep pace
With the smartest in the race
And expect to be marked their equal.
Yet, nothing but murk comes your way
As you are treated like an object of mirth
That has to mimic on others to find his say
And does not know his own worth!
So what use was it to prostitute your-self, at the end?
You still call yourself a friend?

Yet you think that you've grown up, You've climbed the tree when it was tall But you delude yourself that way you know, Cause you're the weakest of us all: You hit here, nice one..
