Sun and dawn came hand in hand
and started painting crimson shade
all over the sky with great ardour.
One golden ray just fell on my face
And the sleep had left me with out a word.
The sun and I stood face to face
And enjoyed its warmth so calmly
Then I saw her just behind me
Lean and long and dark she looked.
When I asked her who you are
She acted like a duff and dumb
Who didn't even have a face at all...
Time was crawling like a snail
The sun shined just on top of my head
The noon came in when I took a spoon
to have my lunch in a happy mood.
Now she was seen just next to me
But this time she looked fat and stout.
She repeatedly imitated all
of my gestures impeccably.
Was she taking part in some
mimicry show, I wondered!
I just invited her for lunch
She didn't say yes or no to it
as did not have a voice to answer.
Her position got changed constantly
Infront or rear side of mine as she wish!
My each and every footstep was
promptly followed by her
in a fear of loosing me!
It seemed we both got tied up
with an invisible string forever.
The retreating sun rays touched the dusk
By smearing vibrant pink shade on her cheeks
When I watched that winsome scene
I almost forgot the world around.
Soon I searched for my dearest friend
But could not find any trace of her
As though she had vanished somewhere
When night dawned on earth silently.
Oh! my readers, have you any guesses?
Who could be my unnamed friend?
When there is light my friend is there
and she is none but my shadow!
..........................
That's the way with her. She does everything we do during the day and hides beside us at night. Mallika more creative endeavors
No doubt dear poet it is your shadow that comes and changes, adjusts with the sun always which follows you everywhere and every side on its own position with the sun rays. But the comment here is that you have great achievement of your creativity in this poem that pleasantly experienced as a reader and likes it much.
the readers knows its a shadow in the first lines nice poem rather long to the last line... which I wished was a surprise...keep on writing and reading...regards
I'm of two minds: by putting shadow in the title, I knew the identity of your amazing playful new companion and enjoyed the transformation that come easily to an insubstantial being like a shadow. But if you had not told whom it was in the title, your poem is so vivid and specific, we could have fun puzzling it out. Either way your poem is very charming. It captures the happy mood of a summer day spent outside with the wonders of nature regaling us with surprises, none of which we can experience indoors. BTW I like the fact you told us it's a shadow at the beginning.! WE can enjoy the interplay of these unlikely friends fully with that knowledge. That's my take on it.
Though our figure is not transformed by the direction of light that falls on us, our shadow of course are. A brilliant poem which richly deserves 10/10. Since the current topic on PH is on ‘ Peace, ’ may I also take this opportunity to read my poem entitled ‘ A Nice Wise Guy, ’ on PH

Mallika, you have beautifully written the poem. You have a lovely way of imaging your experience with well chosen words. I chuckled as it was humourous too. I enjoyed it. Keep writing. Want to read more of your poems.
