Slain Poem by Leslie Alexis

Slain

Have you ever experienced it,
The numbness living within,
That is a greater curse than sin?
The feeling of emptiness -
You can’t hide with smiles
For muscles refuse to relax
As tension radiates from a heart
Who got stuck on one beat:
Because it selflessly loved,
One love,
Who poisoned it!
And from the shock, it can’t recover.
Can never love, another
Child, wife or brother,
For love has become a curse,
And from others, ‘smiles’
Mere trickery -
Trojan horses, hiding devils.
That want in, to destroy joy.
- I have.
So, for your own sake, stand back.
Approach me no more
I cannot love you,
For I did love one before
Who hath slain joy, peace, and hope.
Hope is life, and hope, in love…
