Life can thrive even in hardship,
Just a smile can still offer friendship,
You became my friend on that instant,
The time I stood near you, a little distant.
You, such a frail flower among all that I saw
Stood alone and struck me with awe,
By your bold visage you held in smile,
At the crevices of the walls, as I stood for a while.
At the ‘English Garden' of Mount Dandenong,
Stood the stone walls there, so hard and strong!
You braved your way out sprouting from the rocks
And called my attention for some momentary talks.
Life can be tough, but never so futile,
As to be overcast with gloom and not a smile.
As I remember you now, you may be no more,
But your brave smile will be there, in my heart's core.

Life can certainly rise to ever greater heights, both literal and metaphorical. Fine verse, Khairul.

I remember to have posted a comment on this poem, but sadly it doesn't show up! This poem really fascinated me as I too have written a poem on an unassuming wild flower that shot out of a cranny. Even in the midst of adversity, it managed to peep its head from a small fissure of a rock and carry a smile on its face in the most hostile circumstances. If we can also smile in adversities, we will be successful!
@Valsa George, The theme of my poem has been better explained by your comment than the poem itself. Thank you very much for the thoughtful comment. 'If we can also smile in adversities, we will be successful! ' - Yes, absolutely so!
