Keats, how sad your troubled life seemed to be
'Twas TB, that dreadful great leveller.
What a pity it robbed the world of thee
You became a European traveller.
Your works remained hidden from our still heart,
And you suffered such pain and awful distress.
Missed by your loved one you had to depart
To the city of Rome for you did bless
To breathe fresh air from a milder winter.
Your sorrow does not make thee less of a man
Because you thought your life writ in water.
But, heaven blessed, your poetry still can
Reach the modern man of many still parts
And open up that mind and reach our hearts.
A wonderful tribute to Keats.....! He is my favourite! Shrouded in misery, his life was one of rejection and dejection! But he shines in effulgent brilliance... with some of his immortal lines like Heard melodies are sweet/ But those unheard are sweeter!
Keats needs to be visited again and again. Your first poem on Keats started 'The poetry of earth is alive and well' and now you say ...your poetry still can Reach the modern man... Beautiful tribute. Thank you.
Poor Keats a life cut short but I wonder would we appreciate him as much if he'd lived to 70. A great tribute to the poet. Thanks for sharing BB : O)
