Sonnet 85: To Blind Jack Poem by David Wood

Sonnet 85: To Blind Jack

Rating: 4.9

Blind Jack plays sorrowful tunes in the street
On his old accordion so battered
He begs pennies from all that he will meet
His weathered face said nothing now mattered.

A witness to poverty and despair
He knew no other way to make a living
He had no breaks in life which was unfair
And now relied on people’s kind giving.

Standing on the street corner all alone
Playing to passers-by his sweet sounds
For his lot in life you will not see him moan
He ekes a living with only a few pounds.

We have to be generous to those in need
And have a kind heart to do a good deed.

Dave- You show much compassion in this moving sonnet.Perhaps this will influence the fortunate to be more giving to the less fortunate-a worthy write-10

We have to be generous to those in need And have a kind heart to do a good deed. Beautiful thoughts and flow of compassion. You once wrote comment for my poem Compassion Flows in which a blind girl was singing melodiously at the street corner. Thank you.

Yeah I accept Sir. But then things have changed upside down. In most of the places begging has become a mere bussiness pushing the bright future of innocent kinds into this practice. You may please find time to read one of my works which speaks about the same Today's Children'

As a young man I spent a little time on the streets on one in their right minds would wish to do so out of choice You bring this to our attention and clear and unusual beautiful sonnet 10/10 BB

None chooses to be beggars themselves. We remain empathetic to the clan of Jack as we have to be humanistic ever. A poem that spells out a policy message.

Oh how we love the buskers and to bring us back to reality. They all have such style of their own. How interesting David.

It is sorrowful to be blind, beg. It is true one must be generous. We have to be generous to those in need And have a kind heart to do a good deed. I submitted a poem 'Get out! ' today, based on information shared by Tamil Writer.Jeyakanthan in his book ’Looking backwards’ and expressed concern over the poor Anglo Indian asking for money!

We come across so many such Jacks everyday! Inspite of their disability, they strive to eke out a living with whatever small talent God has given them! We should be very generous to these people! A sweet poem with a lovely message!
