Souls Missing Depth Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Souls Missing Depth

'NOOOBODY KNOOOWS,
THE TROUBLES I'S SEEN.
NOOOBODY KNOOOWS MY SORROWS.'

God? Please,
Reveal to us...
What on Your Earth is going on.
Now those wealthy and elite,
Are bowing their heads.
Shuffling along dragging their feet.
Singing up and down the streets,
About THEIR troubles.
Stopping us from protesting against,
Centuries of racial injustice.
And every crime committed,
Done to deceive their wicked deeds.
To feast selfishly upon greed.

"I think God IS revealing,
To all of us.
Even 'them' too.
What time it is."

And what time is that?
The ending of racism, conflict, confusion.
And division?
What time is THAT, huh?

"The entire World is in an uproar.
Nothing like this has never happened before.
Check it out.
Those wealthy and elite,
Have begun to admit publicly...
What they have done to do,
Has finally risen to the surface.
And they can not escape the truth of it.
Leaving their treasured beliefs behind them.
This is some very historic stuff."

That maybe true.
But all of them are singing out of key.
And yesterday they requested,
To join us in singing 'Lift Every Voice and Sing'.
Without understanding one thing,
Where it comes from to be felt.

"Yeah. I hear you.
But once a banana has been pealed,
No one can pretend...
The act of it has not been done.
Even monkeys are smarter than that! "

That's why,
This change being made...
Is much different than any other.

"For the first time,
They are beginning to see us as human beings.
And their perception of monkeys,
Has become a devastating awakening.
But I do agree.
Their singing has got to stop.
Their presence with us in protest is fine.
But that singing has no 'soul'.
It is not connected,
To our depth of anguish and pain to FEEL it!
Missing are their souls."
