Suddenly my future looks so close
What happened to Barbies and dress-up clothes?
Just yesterday I was a girl in school
Today I've a job in the great big world.
Suddenly my childhood dreams are real
I'm a big girl now, learning how to feel
I'm still the same, yet a different force
Presses me to shape my course.
Suddenly I must choose my path
Run straight at it, and not look back
What if I'm wrong? And what if I fail?
What if I miss my fairytale?
Suddenly I'm not a child anymore
When did that happen? I remember before
I watched the twin towers go down on TV
And thirteen years later the world's up to me.
I am the future, and the future is here
The life that I've dreamed of attainably near
I'm first in line now, my life has begun
But wait, I'm not ready - too late. Number's up.
