Sweet Nostalgia Of Yesteryear Poem by Hebert Logerie

Sweet Nostalgia Of Yesteryear

These euphoric moments lingered in my head
For a long time. When I was a kid, there was a party
Almost every day. Friday evenings were
Superbly jovial, where everything was calm and peaceful.

Eternal springs constantly around us
The sky and the sea were dressed cheerfully in indigo blue
Like two twins, in kindergarten
Back from school, with their light backpacks.

The peasants displayed their products on Saturdays
In the municipal market. The courageous donkeys could
Barely walk or trot, these poor animals were so
Overloaded that their backs were making noise.

From a distance you could hear a well-organized chaos
City dwellers stocked up with local food, while the peasants
In return purchased items from far away land
And when evening came, everyone was happy.

Every six hours, the church bells were ringing
You could inhale the aroma of fried meats and fish
All the streets were lit up with tiny kerosene lamps
And short waves radios that entertained the silence and the peace.

Sweet nostalgia, Sunday was the most chic and beautiful day
The vast majority of people wore their best dresses for two short
Morning masses. In the afternoon, we visited the wharf and the boats
On the wooden porches, the girls were dancing and shaking their buttocks.

And my school comrades enjoyed watching and admiring everything
I'm not going to give further details. Boys are future
Men. They liked to send pretty flowers and play stupid trumps
This time will never return, yet we can pay tribute on the walls.

These moments straggled in my head. I'm neither asleep, nor dreaming
It was year round eternal spring. Oh Gosh! We are no longer children
The days were really beautiful, especially Saturdays among the peasants
And Sunday afternoons, when took placed many kermesses and galas.
