Thank You Mr. Veteran Poem by Walterrean Salley

Thank You Mr. Veteran

Rating: 5.0

Thank you Mr. Veteran.
We salute you—
Who've fought for our freedoms
To go, and come and do.

Our children and grandchildren
Can have a future too:
A better chance at life—
To make their dreams come true.

Thank you for your sacrifice
In times of war and peace.
And for the miles trekked—
O'er land and the seas.

Thank you for your time away
From family and friend;
And for all the leisure
That could have been.

I have often wondered
What would make you go—
Lay it all on the line
For those whom you least know.

Although, I must admit—
I have yet to understand,
I know that it was for
The good of the land.

And to your fellow comrades—
Veterans like you—
Would you pass the word
That I 'thank' them too.

Tell them that their sacrifice,
As long as we shall live,
Will be the noble gift
That continues to give.
