The Bitter Pill Poem by mmm nababana

The Bitter Pill

I guess I should have been expecting the rejection
Adding mine to your collection
I foolishly thought you might my gift weigh

So that's what I get for trying and reaching
After my wasted beseeching,
I find surprisingly little left to say

Now that I'm broken, sad, bent, and busted
You clearly shouldn't have been trusted
But still, you can be proud you've won the day

I can't understand why this is what you wanted
My dreams are now haunted
When each night in my bed I finally lay

What is it about me or what didn't I do
or maybe just tell me when you knew
It would be so easy for you to betray

Forced to move on, but I'll take the lesson learned,
Anything's better than being burned
You've taken so much and left me this way

So now I'm just older and completely jaded
My hopes and dreams all faded
And I can't even decide if I want to go or stay.

This wasn't in the plan, so tell me what I do now
I don't know where to start or how
Now that you've turned my world to gray
