The Contest Poem by Joelle Johnson

The Contest

Rating: 5.0

She stood,
But a nightmare apart.
The blade that she'd loved,
Pierced through her heart.

In a strange, twisted way
Her tortured night,
Somehow turned into day.
Gone was the pain,
Gone was the smile,
Gone was the rain,
If not only for a while.

A lie in the dark,
Custom made for her,
Played a song in the stars,
She did not hear a word.

In a heartbroken way,
Her angel eyes
Somehow faded to gray.
Gone was the glow,
Gone was the dirt,
Gone was the sun,
That had caused her to hurt.
