The Gift Poem by Vonda Overlie

The Gift

Rating: 5.0

Unresponsive to you I stay cold, frozen.
I put on the mask and cheat through life.

Can you not feel me cringe when you touch me.
I will not trust unclean hands.

Once the heart was so young and free.
I could breathe back then.

Carefree days when the sunlight lit my face.
You were my hero, My knight.

Just the sound of your voice could soothe me.
No longer comforted. Your voice is course.

The truth lies in the eyes.
They no longer dance for me.

I use to be your Christmas
Anticiapation, excitement

The years brought me here.
