The Phoenix - Part -2 Poem by Ratnakar Mandlik

The Phoenix - Part -2

Sons of this soil by default were innocent,
Weightage their lives had for spiritualism
Sacrifice was a boon for foes of materialism.
Legacy of such teachings was too sacrosanct.

Status of deity was conferred here on guests
Forgiving their ulterior motives or quests.
Eternal joy was pursued through contentment,
Infants were fed on this potion by parents.

The tyranny of intruders had its toll,
Deceit was ushered in in place of innocence
Forgetting the morals, the place of sacrifice
Our legacy of values too had a roll back.

Concept of globalization tossed by big players,
Ensured their feeding at the cost of smallers,
Paralyzing our wisdom though for a while,
Definite is our victory in the end on guile.

Great poem of social context. A Civilization founds itself on some high principles and standards but when there is a clash all values burn to ashes until stability is restored. Winners impose their own standards of ethics and values with new names and new settings. The title signifies it so well and is so very appropriate for the poem.
