The Truth About You And Me Poem by Mira Graves

The Truth About You And Me

For years have I been by thy side,
Did you not see my shadow?
Did you not feel my longing?
Did you not take me into account?

For years I have heard your thoughts.
Did you not pay attention to mine?
Did you not hear my ideals?
Did you not think about my mind?

For years I have watched your actions.
Did you not recollect my own?
Did you not witness your own demise?
Did you not understand that you were wrong?

'Come with us to the dance! '
You'd say, but I knew the places you went.
They were not the type to cleanse your soul,
they were only locations to darken and damage.

'Come hear our stories! '
You'd invite, but I knew what was being said.
A venomous tongue with poison you held.
The kind to torture and empty leave you.

'Come with us to feast! '
You'd tempt me, but I knew what you fed on.
Hypocrisy and impurity were your meal.
Pride and disloyalty was your favored drink.

'Even if you get tired,
walk with us! '
How could I walk with you,
if you'd lead my off my path?

'Even if you don't drink,
come with us! '
How could I drink with you,
if all you drank were lies?

'Even if you don't like our company,
talk to us! '
How could I talk with you,
when it's safer to speak to the wall?

'You say you're lonely,
but never approach us.'
You're wrong.
Countless have been the times,
I have tugged at your sleeve.

'You say you're bored,
but you never invite us to play.'
You're wrong.
Countless have been the times,
I have offered entertainment.

'You say you don't care about us,
yet we try to be there for you.'
You're wrong.
It is not that I don't care about you.
It is that you don't care about me.
