Today A Rainbow Strung Poem by Mark Heathcote

Today A Rainbow Strung

Today a rainbow strung itself above two pylons
with such majesty, the-pylons-hung like-earrings
like two drops of dew, two tremulous diamonds.
Then from behind me, peeped white dumpling-
clouds like a brood of nestling eagles chirping.

Then a clap of thunder divided these two heavens.
There stood I, windblown, a dishevelled bird looking
at the petals of a rose, at a single-footed heron,
at the finery-of-his, at my feathered clothes,
seeing all God's work and beauty at evening's close.
