Two Tickets Poem by Rachel Henley

Two Tickets

I had a dream and we had two tickets for a flight.
In secret we stole a car and escaped during the night.
We left behind things we were desperate to forget.
Never had I felt so content as I slept.
Anywhere is better than here I reminded you.
Did not even ask the question, Where to?
At the check in, greeted by laughter and smiles.
Something I forgot how to do during the passage of time.

We took our seats and embraced the future ahead.
No more carrying heavy hearts weighed with dread.
You cried a silent but beautiful happy tear.
Whispered like a melody to me, I cannot believe we are here.
The plane landed but we did not even reach the terminal this time.
For I awoke to a world that I can never refer to as mine.
