Urbanistically Speaking Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Urbanistically Speaking

How does that old saying go?
'You can take a herd of horses,
To where fresh water freely flows.
Hoping to assist,
Them to quench their thirst for it.
But if they insist and argue,
Among themselves.
About refusing to remove their blindfolds.
From allowing the proof and evidence,
They have been led to fresh water to drink.
What more can anyone do? '

"I have never before heard of that 'saying'.
How old is it.
And from where did you hear it? "

It has to be extremely old.
Someone HAD to have said it.
For years I have seen this observed.
And regardless where I go,
The evidence is as clear...
As night is from day.

"I can understand that.
But...
Only the ones,
Taking a risk to remove their blindfolds.
Would know this to realize this.
Right?
I mean...
Urbanistically speaking.
Of course."

Yeah.
You're right.
I had not thought about it that way.
Hmmm.
Urbanistically speaking.
I wonder.
Would that apply,
To suburbanites as well?

"Your quess is as good as mine.
However...
Most of them do swim.
And have swimming pools.
In their backyards.
Shouldn't they be more familiar,
With the many uses water has already? "

Who knows?
Not too many of them have I seen,
Deliberately wearing blindfolds.
Maybe that's just an urban thing.
And besides,
Don't most of them keep their horses,
Well fed and kept comfortably in sheds?

"Hmmm...
That I don't know.
I live in the city.
And the last time I saw any horses,
Had been on TV.
During a polo contest.
And not one had a blindfold on."
