'Velvet Night' Poem by Maureen Carey

'Velvet Night'

The velvet night, full of dark beauty and grace coaxed the two young lovers out into the still night air to fully explore its profound mysteries.

A deep and quiet stillness permeated the air and a delicate and airy hush fell throughout the world. These were the magical hours, the time between late night and early morning, a most acceptable time for a little night magic.

Off in the distant pine trees, owls hooted their nightly greetings. The stars ran in their ancient, eternal course. A pale yellow banana moon kept guard. The snow fell swiftly and silently, blanketing the world.

This was not the time for ordinary men, who were fast asleep dreaming. This was the time for those who dream fully awake, those who chase wild and reckless dreams with abandon, those who allow themselves to succumb to the temptation of a little night magic.

As the soft music began to play from a distant house, the two young lovers stood in the midst of the forest, with the snow falling lightly around them and swayed to the tune.

The night was deep with passion, a blazing comet shot through the sky, its tail blazing, leaving a trail of light and wonder across the sky. The stars twinkled knowingly, witness to this glorious wonder.

As the two young lovers stood and watched these heavenly sights, they wondered if they too could leave blazing trails on each each other's hearts, comets of passion.

This was a velvet night, deep and rich. This was the acceptable time for a little night magic.
