We Do Ask G-D The New Whys Poem by Shalom Freedman

We Do Ask G-D The New Whys

We can ask G-d
We do ask G-d
We are a people
Who asks God

Why the suffering?
Why the injustice?
Why do the good so often receive evil
And the evil good?

The old eternally unanswered ‘Whys'

But then the new ‘Whys? '
Many other ‘Whys? '
The ‘Whys' given us by our knowledge of the universe
‘Why is there so much? '
Why all the space and all the darkness?
Why so much violence and emptiness?
Why so many worlds destroyed in our world?

Why so much life extinct?

Why don't You speak to us again?
And direct us in circumstances
So changed from what we knew before?

Why the Silence
Why the evidence against You
And the absence of evidence for You?

Why the Promises not kept?

Why making it so difficult
For those who need you so much?
Who would have complete trust in You?

Why so much evidence for the other side
And making it so difficult for those
Who would be loyal to you with all their heart soul and might?

Why don't You make it more rational for us
To trust in You when we need You so much?
Why? Why? Why?
