What’s Right For Us Poem by Dama Tristeza

What’s Right For Us

I hardly know where to begin
When everything I wanted feels like sin.

Day in and day out, I’m fighting myself
How can something this good bring about all hell?

There’s right…then there’s wrong,
And it’s time I know with whom I belong.

Do I do the same thing I’ve done before?
Or explore my life to see if there’s more?

It hurts me to say this, but you need to see
That I have to do what’s right for me.

Already, I’ve chased after you,
That’s one fairytale ending that never came true.

You’re not faithful, it’s not just me,
I know that there’s other girls you see.

And all this - it’s something I just don’t need.
I want someone who’ll want only me.

Call it stupid or selfish, I really don’t care,
It’s the only way a relationship is fair.

I know for me it hurt to see
That we were never meant to be.

I’ll still love you everyday
And friends forever I hope we’ll stay.

And I want you to know, while this I write,
I’m trying to hold my tears inside.

And hopefully, one of these days, you’ll see,
This was right for you, as well as me.

Because you love her, and I love him,
Cheating would have been a sin.

I just want you to understand
Why instead of yours I hold his hand.
