When I See You Ex-Romeo* Poem by Kat Smith

When I See You Ex-Romeo*

When I see you in the hall way
Ex-Romeo
The world slows down
And reality becomes thick and syrupy
The air becomes damp and hard to breath
I'm drowning on dry land
Only when your there it's not dry any more
Is turning to water
I'm sinking
And you don't notice because you're walking on water
You're floating
And you glowing bronze skin reflecting light and glowing gold
And my world stops
You glanced at me
‘‘Oh my god''
The dots of darkness spot up my vision
I feel like the floor of my world on pause is getting closer then it usually is
Then you move by
And the world hits me in the face
Like a punch from a boxing world champion
It keeps me up right
Now the world is spinning at a million miles an hour
Like someone threw me in a cold shower
And then it's over
I'm sitting now
In class
There world is only lightly pulsating
I'm still not far from fainting
I breathe
Even after
I'm tired of breathing
And I'm staring
Blankly
Not remembering where I am or what subject this is
Wait
Is this lunch?
Wow it is
Oh
Oh people are laughing
Better laugh too
Getting lost in the languid easy feeling
Yeah, this is funny
And now I'm forgetting
Just for a little while
I'm forgetting the way life is
Compared to the way it used to be
And I think
It isn't so bad
Then I back out in the hallway
Either floating toward you
Or away from you at all times
And then I remember
‘‘Yeah, it really is that bad''
I look at all the places you used to hold me and I look in at it
Memories blinking to life like a hologram
And I realize
‘‘Only one person there is being loved''
My body quakes
‘‘And it isn't me''
