When Times Change
A country victorious in wartime
Projects the winning image on society
In short term even a loser feels winner.
Time eventually shatters the myth
To remain victorious in peacetime
Citizens' grievances need to be heard.
In rough times collective wealth
Of society can't assure
Individual's wellbeing.
A system mindful to welfare of all
Implements the checks and balances
And so does a sincere authority.
" Citizen's grievances need to heard." ... " Citizen's" or " Citizens' " ? and " need to be [or " need be" ] heard" ...i think. :) i like the sentiment(s) poetically projected. a LOT of people try to work for what they believe is best for citizens, but the outcome is not as all would like. and some may NOT " work for....for citizens" . that's life! : ( bri :) thanks for sharing

There is much truth in what you have tried to project through this poem! Only a system that takes into account the welfare of all or at least of the majority can leave a lasting effect! Well put!

A war can be won at great cost, a Pyrrhic victory, but peace is different. War across borders, peace within. well said.
