Who Knew? Poem by Daniel Sims

Who Knew?

Who knew brown eyes were so deep
Who knew they could steal your sleep
As if waking you for the first time
Staring at you through her sublime
Feeling you could stare at them forever
Saving you whenever from whatever

Who knew hair was so kind and smooth
Who knew its very purpose was to soothe
Deflecting tears of hers or yours
It's the beginning of her, the doors
A lion's bushy mane doesn't nearly compare
To the beauty and complexion of her hair

Who knew the heart could care so much
Who knew the heart was your touch
From harm or hurt, it was there
To care for you, and to ensnare
The opening to the universe and the soul
It sucks you in like a black hole

Who knew the feelings you felt too
Who knew what, before adieu
You try and try to preserve the bond
But now she lives on the great beyond
Although you know she's right as ever
And I love you whenever, whatsoever

You try and fail to erase her
But thoughts of her just seem to recur
Even though she belongs to another
You still feel like her one other
So you think sorry and move on
Hoping she heard you from thereon
