~ Wide Open Spaces
There is a land where mountain peaks
Reach snowcapped arms on high;
Give me wide open spaces of this world.
There is a land where ocean waves
Lap endlessly against the sky;
Give me wide open spaces of this world.
You can have your city life;
I’ll be far from cares and strife
In my wide open spaces of this world.
There is a land where mountain breeze
Hums symphonies among the trees;
Give me wide open spaces of this world.
There is a land where waterfalls’
Cascades echo canyon walls;
Give me wide open spaces of this world.
You can have your city life;
I’ll be far from cares and strife
In my wide open spaces of this world.
There is a land where sunset’s blaze
Defies mere human lavish praise;
Give me wide open spaces of this world.
There is a land where snowdrifts white
Reflect the shifting northern lights;
Give me wide open spaces of this world.
You can have your city life;
I’ll be far from cares and strife
In my wide open spaces of this world.
Here in this land where gracious peace
Invites the heart to find release
In wide open spaces of this world,
Here in this land where heaven’s calm
Scribes upon the heart a psalm,
I laude wide open spaces of this world.
You can have your city life;
I’ll be far from cares and strife
In my wide open spaces of this world.

A well pictured place by words and pleasure to read with rhyme scheme, great piece,
You have created a master piece and I was on this journey with you and saw many beautiful places that I have never been before, but have only read about. Thanks for taking me on this trip. Forever your friend, Lynn
Lovely poem! There was a popular Country Western song entitled, Wide Open Spaces, that I also like, so my mind went to that first. I love the imagery you used to describe what a wide open space was to you. It was easy to imagine myself in those places, especially the ocean. Thanks for sharing.
If given a choice I would select the wide open spaces any day as opposed to the closed in city life. Here out in the country where I reside there is lots of room to breathe. You can take long walks without worrying about automobiles. Go for a stroll on the beach and watch the waves or just sit on the banks of a river and watch the boats sail by. City life can sometimes be nothing but strife. Enjoyed this write Adeline.
I live on the outskirts of leeds in England, where I live we have a lot of open countryside, some really beautiful sights, but go 15 miles to leeds city centre and it's like your in another world. A fantastic poem.
There is alot of soul in this poem, it's as big as all out-of-doors, and I just love it. Reminds me very much of Everett Ruess who prior to disappearing somewhere in the southwest in the 1930's wrote such beautiful words like these. A stunning poem.
Thank you, Adeline. I enjoyed this poem for its images and its architecture.
