ہونٹ کھلتے نہیں شکوے بھی کروں تو کیسے ،
آنکھیں بند ہوتی نہیں چُپ جو رہوں تو کیسے ،
کہیں ایک اپنے پہ الزام نہ لگ جائے کوئی ،
مرتے مرتے ہے یہی فکر مروں تو کیسے.
خون کمبخت بھی بہتا نہیں جم جاتا ہے ،
درد تو ہونا ہے ہوتا ہے سہوں تو کیسے.
بھولنا چاہتا ہوں دِل نہیں مانے ہے میرا ،
اشک گھٹ گھٹ كے یہ کہتے ہیں رکوں تو کیسے.
میں بہت دور ہوں غیروں کی پہنچ سے اَخْتَر ،
جو میرے پاس ہیں انسے میں بچوں تو کیسے.

Hont khlte nahin shikwe bhi karooN to kaise,
AankheN band hoti nahiN chup jo rahooN to kaise,
KahiN Eek apne pe ilzam nah lag jaye koi,
Marte marte hay yehi fikr marooN to kaise.
Khoon kambakht bhi bahta nahiN jum jata hay,
Dard to hona hay hota hay sahoN to kaise.
Bhoolna chahta hooN dil nahiN mane hay mera,
Ask ghut ghut ke yeh kahte hayN rukoN to kaise.
Main bahut door hooN ghairoN ki pahunch se Akhtar,
Jo mere paas haiN unse maiN bachooN

English Version
I do not open my lips for the grievance,
If my eyes speak, I am helpless!
I fear a dear may be blamed for my death,
How can I die, I am helpless!
Blood does not flow it's frozen,
Pain is not tolerable, I am helpless!
I wish to forget someone, my heart disagrees,
My tears repeat my words, I am helpless!
I am not in the reach of anyone else,
But those so close! I am helpless!
