Your Super Sweet 16 Poem by Justin Gildow

Your Super Sweet 16

This is your super sweet 16
You're the face of the nation
At least for the night
And I'm not having a cracker

There's a draft in the room that you brought with you
Into this room
And with your antics and what you do
Should I take you at your word or believe you
I don't think your attitude's going to change any time soon

I want to look at you
And say your dress is beautiful
But you don't think I'm worthy of your status
And you think you could've found a better dress
But you squeeze your hands in front of your face at me
So I can't see you
Or look at you in a daydreaming daze

Your feelings are yours, My feelings are mine
You can crash the town tonight
Hoping for a wonderful entrance to your party
While I'm with the wistful romantics

I'm a simple man
And I have nothing to worry about
Just making my way through life the best I can

When the night comes
In this glammed out decadent kingdom
I'll be right where I'll be
I hope you'll be alright
And learn something else tonight in the process
Besides pining for that expensive dress

No one can stop you tonight
If you want to crash bomb the boulevards
No one can stop you tonight
If you want to flirt
As well as break a couple hearts
It's your super sweet 16

Later on
I can't wait to match wits with you
Face to face, eye to eye
And at your pace
With the way you feel and act
It's too fast for me to react
I can't stop you
I can't slow you down

It's your super sweet 16
And I've stolen the shadow blades
And hidden them from you
And your pining needs

I think if I smile
I'll have it made tonight
You're the face of the city tonight
Be careful what you wish for
You just might get what you ask for
I'll be alright
I'll be counting my blessings
I'll be counting all the way to my happiness
I'll be counting towards a brighter future for myself
And making wishes on stars every night hereafter

It's your super sweet 16
Enjoy this night
It only comes once in your lifetime

Remember though
What's yours is mine and mine is yours
