A King's Reward Poem by Mark Heathcote

A King's Reward

Be the first divine king - kill
-also his son, his heir's murder
he who locates lost donkeys,
remove his halo, let the evil spirit
befall him, who does not obey me
he who is caught in sin slay him.
Let nightmares embrace them one and all
I see them as mine to over thrall
so we're brothers in arms: 'Not, said Samuel,
said, Saul. Whom later befell a sacrificial
lamb - victim unto his own be knighting sword.'
