A Sigh For Peace Poem by Bireswar Halder

A Sigh For Peace

Rating: 3.5

I am under the babbling river`s spell
The setting sun spreads its wings well
Arrow-shaped birds return to their nests
Cheerfully for their time of peace and rest.

White catkins roll down like young girls,
To dance in the autumn carnival
The atmosphere is serene all around
I was mesmerized with the temple-bell sound.

A lovely but stricken woman came with fear
Her groaning broke the serenity with tears
It was like a sudden break of a melodic tune
I was filled with foreboding of doom.

She told of inhuman tortures and massacre
That took away her beloved ones forever
Everywhere extremists moving in disguise
Alas! Blood-shedding is normal - no surprise.

Compassion has fled from miscreants` hearts
No idea what aims they desperately impart!

Like puppets without any real thought
Bent on killing, lost to the all world.

O, let`s be united for peace and humanity;
And march ahead for purging minds of enmity.
Let`s promise not to commit any more brutality,
Live and let live in harmony and tranquility.
