An Elderly Man Of The World Poem by Francis Duggan

An Elderly Man Of The World

I met this old bloke in the parkland he did seem quite balding and gray
Perhaps he is into his seventies he has known a far better day
But he was a happy old fellow with warmth in his cheerful hello
We chatted for some twenty minutes and much about life he did know
He told me of his many travels and of the beautiful landscapes he had seen
Of places that were green and lovely and places that were not so green
Of people he had met on his travels his life a great story to tell
Yet he was not wearied by travel for his years he looked fit and well,
He had great adventures in Asia and he had travelled far from home
And he had been in big European Cities such as London and Paris and Rome
He has worked in so many Countries a man of the World one might say,
He has travelled in Russia and South America and worked in Canada and the U S of A
An elderly man of the World he bid me a very good day
And he whistled a tune from the fifties as he happily went on his way.
