Appointments Poem by Robert R. Railey

Appointments

Appointments
(Fifteen minutes early)

The clock is ticking; will we be late? An appointment is a
Definite date
Civility matters, punctuality is crucial, early or on time, but
Don't be late
A person's character might well be in question, if not there on
The time we slated

It's not important, the reason for the meet, it's all the same,
Whether menial or great
The time counts the same, even for them, only more pressing
While during the wait
I'll be there, we'll meet at the show, watch for me, I'll be by the
Gate

Where's old George? Oh never fear, he'll be here but he's
Always in arrears
George should have watched Coach Lombardi's film, if here on
Time you're fifteen late
Pro-football's Lombardi's system was simple, leave fifteen prior
To the time of the date

What's the rush old George will profess, what's so important
That can't wait one or two?
To some, the clock is a man-made toy but when trains are late
Then they'll blame you
Everyone else had better toe the line but old George marches
To a different drummer

Poor old George is hung up on principles, theirs not his, he's a
Unique individualist
On appointments we have choices: show up on time or don't
Make the guarantee!
