BERTIE THE FROG

Hello my dear friends your ear may I lend
To listen to my story till my journey's end
My story will unfold in a syrupticious way
I sure hope you like it on this glorious sunny day!
My name is Bertie Frog my colour ‘evergreen'
My eyes are big and round but I am never mean
My tummy is so large my legs are very long
I love to catch the flies with my massive tongue
My fingers spread so wide in an alienated way
I hop hop hop around for most of my day
My voice is very croaky my spirit rather wild
I love to swim in water I think I'm still a child
My home is in a pond where lilies all float by
I often hop and board them and give a little sigh
My life is very good my food is always free
There is nothing better in this world for me!
My life here started with an egg so round and very soft
All clustered together within a bunch of moss
I started to transform so slowly and so calm
First came my body then came my arms!
My little legs appeared then along came my eyes
My tail followed later which was my disguise
I broke free from my egg and swam for my life
I valued my freedom it was a great delight!
I started to change and I became a male
My body was re-formed I then lost my tail
My tummy was enormous I learned that I could leap
Out of the water and found my favourite seat!
I soaked up all the sunshine and looked up to the sky
And took in all the sights with my huge round eyes
My spots they appeared the colour emerald green
The sight of me now was fit for a queen!
My tongue was so electric it rolled right out my mouth
It grabbed me a tit-bit to my great delight
At night I would sing and then be answered back
Just like a choir recording a track!
I dived to the depths of my beautiful bottomless pond
And watched all the creatures swirling along
I was so very happy in my own little world
Hopping onto lilies and making them swirl!
I spotted my soul mate upon a summer's day
I sang her a love song to bring her my way
Our eyes then did meet it was love at first sight
I will never forget her what a wonderous night!
We lay there for hours and then we would play
Leap frog and diving till the end of the day
My soul mate produced our eggs in her womb
She laid them to rest in a jelly cocoon!
I watched them day and night till they all hatched out
I could not believe I wanted to shout
My family complete all darting around my life had begun and was so profound
I was so very happy ecstatic and so proud
Me and my soul mate with our family abound!
Our babies were lovely we gave them all a name
Each one was individual and definitely not the same
They kept us on the hop as they grew from day to day
I was the happy father protective in every way!
We guarded them like treasure from the dangers of the deep
I never closed my eyes not even to sleep
I had to keep my vigil up to save them all from harm
I gave them lots of love and they remained so calm!
I loved to watch their antics playing hide and seek
And soon they got their arms and legs and gave a bit of cheek
Tiny little froggies jumping up and down my own little army
Of them I was so proud! Bobby, Boo, Marty and John Susie, Loo, Shelly and Dom
Rupert, Nellie, Sylvie and Dawn Tommy, George, Cherrie and Vaughn
Nine fine boys and six fine girls swimming about in mighty swirls
Do we love them? Yes we do the naughty ones are Suzie and Loo!
They swam too far right out of sight and so we lost them for the night
I was so worried and out of mind I thought they'd been eaten
By something unkind I searched and I searched calling their names
Susie...Loo...please stop your games! My nerves they were frazzled
I searched in vain but I could not find them my heart felt such pain
I sat on a log to rest for a while my body was weak this was such a trial
The tears they were flowing from my eyes big and round
When all of a sudden I heard a sound! Pappa Oh Pappa where are you?
Please come and find us we really need you I dived to the depths of the murky black pond And listened for sounds as I swam around all of a sudden I caught site of a net my two lovely daughters were trapped by their necks I swam to their aid and said now stay calm
I used my long fingers to stretch at the yarn I tried to release them they started to fret
I pulled and I pulled till the net was a wreck! They swam to my arms and never let go
They were both trembling and looked full of woe I took them both home and put them to bed Was such a relief to my throbbing head I warned them to never ever to roam
Now they are safe back in my home! Bobby and Boo were just typical boys
They liked to make such terrible noise one day I was napping enjoying my snooze
When all of a sudden I heard a cow's moos I opened my eyes and there it was stood
Stooped down on the edge of my pond in the mud! Bobby and Boo were croaking out load
This cow was bemused by the rhythmical sound sat on a lily they continued to sing
Totally oblivious to this humungous thing it fluttered it's lashes over gigantic eyes
Started to chew and then made cow pies! I would not have minded but it landed on me
All soft hot and gooey and I could not see my beautiful colour had gone from my brain
To dark dirty brown and I smelt like a drain Bobby was laughing and Boo then joined in
The sound that erupted was a terrible din! It took all my strength to pull myself out
When I got myself free I started to shout so you think this is funny laughing at me just keep on going and soon you will see I jumped on their lily with a might great leap
They flew through the air and did not land on their feet!
I do love my children my pond and my wife I know that I have such a glorious life
I am so grateful for the things that I have my family and health and being a dad
What more do I need to keep me alive I thank Mother Nature for giving this prize!
Well this is my story of how I got here I hope that you liked it and wish you good cheer!
