Bring Water To Say Bye To Heat. Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Bring Water To Say Bye To Heat.

I have a fear within
if the Sun goes hotter,
all the reptiles wouldn’t care
to encroach the corners
of my house to live.
I’ll have no guts
to demand advance or rent.
Let them occupy my house
and register it paying
hefty fees and bribes
in the evening hours.

The rains are not pouring
as in the remote past.
We can’t hope again to jump
into the waterful village wells
or to dive and swim
as we did in the past.
Can you wet your hot heels
in ponds and puddles of water
here and there, around our abodes? .
The spring-water is not sweet
and the taste of it is bereft.
How can we leave our homes
though we are bankrupt?

To link Ganges and Cauvery,
No one takes the plunge.
To ring the bell and sing the hymns
they stand in queues in temples.
The hot sun frowns at us
emitting waves of heat.
To beat the Sun
bring the water sweet
or make retreat from governing
this vast, wonderful nation.
