Appearing in June, trumpeted lances
Rise like fine swords fencing for room, daylight
Shines on pink blooms strung around serried ranks
Of foxgloves, belying valiant fights
Wrought boldly in darkest earth for release
Before this, - but June is the month rightly
Assigned for hegerow lining of niches
Frilled with upright military show.
Thrusting displays now blossom away, trying
To reach for the sky. Why, without knowing,
Do foxgloves break ranks, disperse and then die?
great poetic diction..nice flow to read and significant verses...beautiful....10
Great poetic language used.....wonderful imagery and concept........10+++
Great last line, Fay: poignant, and leaving the reader room to think. Made me smile though.... I remember being about 4 or 5 and picking tons of Foxgloves for my Mum and presenting them to her in a vase. She stuck it about two days before Dad had to try to explain that he had taken them away because Mum was highly allergic to them! Don't see many over here though.... possibly because we have so many Wild Boars that dig up the hedgerows! Regards, Tony
This is absolutly wonderful Fay....love the images....Fi 10+++++
FAY LOVEDTHIS POEDM. FOXGLOVE IS A BEAUTIFUL FLOWER AND THEY DO STAND TALL IN THE GARDEN. LOVED THE LINE ''RISE LIKE FINE SWORDS FENCING FOR ROOM'' ANOTHER #10 LIKE ALWAYS
Fantastic title - and a wonderful metaphor for those bold and beautiful blooms. As your closing lines so poignantly point out, this 'Foxglove Force' is all too fleeting. S :)
Wonderful imagery in this Fay, the foxgloves are a joy to behold, and are a useful plant used to treat heart conditions, 10 Lynda xxx
