Gathering In My Thoughts To Guard Away Poem by Dan Reynolds

Gathering In My Thoughts To Guard Away

Gathering in my thoughts to guard away

Gathering in my thoughts to guard away
unwilling to confide in love's soft ear
Let none who hear repeat that which I say
lest all I treasure deigns to disappear.

In keeping with this need that bores so deep
by buffeting the conscience to and fro
libations of the heart-strings swear to keep
embittered secrets from so long ago

Pure Purgatory in the world at large
I lay before her rule my candid list
Let justice steer her sentence to my charge
Let justice answer why a man did this

On reading words of plaintiff's solemn pleas
Cannot your heart be sweet, and no more caustic
Know this, the words I write, consider these
Sometimes, my ideas start with an acrostic.
