The wire you ordered came today.
I stacked it by the garden gate.
Standing under the arc of a rainbow.
In your big raincoat snuggled safe.
God knows you're in my head.
The dog whines knowing you are gone.
Twice today I heard your favourite song.
I check the phone in the hall.
Way too early for your call.
My powers of persuasion didn't work.
To beg you stay I had no right.
So I drove you there to catch your flight.
I cant believe sun shone that day.
All my colours are washed away.
You are a carpenter building a bridge to go.
While the tattered ribbons of my heart dangle.
My tears fall as a stream.
In which I sift the foggy ashes of my dreams.
I have no words to express what do I feel now..... Dear these lines are scented with your tears, and we can feel it..... -Rain...
The heartache you feel is beautifuully written with your great love for your son shining across the miles!
Such an emotional and heart wrenching poem ! ! ! O' dear Noreen I hold you and I stand with you. I don't want to put salt in your wound by sympathizing but I pray that you get strength to face the loss, I know this pain of loss which is nonrecoverable, only to have the strength to bear it. My tears are flowing with yours and I hold you strong.
I thought I had left a comment on this before, but I don't see it. This is a magnificent poem, in my opinion! The son could be leaving for the army or to college. He could have been killed after he left, so the mother knows he will never return. Truth or fiction, it's still a great poem! I am going to mention it in my Puzzle Master Quiz 050, to be posted the day after tomorrow.
noreen, you wouldn't be pulling our legs, would you? ? ? quite a few readers think this is emotional. and it does sound that way to me as well. true story, or great imagination? your son, or someone else's, or no one's? it really moves along, portraying the emptiness. is the bridge' figurative or literal? a bridge to a better life outside ireland, as one reader seems to think? or is the son an engineer or steel worker? bridge to go had me thinking a figurative bridge, OR a new kind of item on McDonalds' take out menu. favorite lines: cant believe sun shone that day. All my colours are washed away. at least he intends to call. and is he coming back to take care of the wire? he just left for summer camp, right? to MyPoemList! bri :)
Beautiful poem Noreen, full of emotion and love for her son.

I would like to translate this poem
A lovely poem full of emotion. A mother's love for her son. Too many of Ireland's sons and daughters have had to seek a life abroad in the past, and it seems that trend is back. Hearbreakingly true.
