He Is Happy Who Waits Poem by Mohabeer Beeharry

He Is Happy Who Waits

Rating: 5.0

Let me be happy today.
I will let nothing hinder me.
Neither the laugh of the gale in the casuarinas
Nor the running riots of sunset crazy colour blend,

Neither the calls of the late birds
Sailing frenziedly home
Nor the cheeky stars shyly peeping behind curtains of pirouetting clouds,
Hailing me from the depth of their blind nothingness.

As the sun goes down
Joys unknown
And unseen seek the friendship of my mind,
I shiver in the embraces of thousand little joys.

Still I resist
The temptation of being possessed.
Says my fickle mind, let go!
But my heart sits still,
Firmly domiciled in serene waiting.

Assailed by the opiating advances
And the enslaving breaths of the queen of the night
Like threads of tantalising gold,
And the last hoots of a roving pigeon

How sweetly they weave the tissue of temptations!
They tempt!
They fume!
But my mind is mine
And my heart too, to giveaway or not to!

In the silence of the growing night
They scream to be possessed,
But I am free,
I love, but I do not possess!

As I sit quiet
And look into myself,
A strange breath of mystic happiness descends
Like a bird it lands on the nest of my being.

And breathes sweet little fires of ecstatic sensations.
And when it lifts,
Leaves behind streams of inebriating enchantments
Tingling for days and weeks.
For this I waited.

The poet enjoys, loves but he does not command. A beautiful description of the time of day as it draws to an end in twilight and reverie.
