Identity Crisis - Poem by David Semenske

I'm dazed and confused
I'm tired of being used
It is not me that you see
It is just your fantasy
It's an identity crisis
An identity crisis

Work all day for my pay
doing it the bosses way
At night I'm a fright
Wondering if all is right
It's an identity crisis
an identity crisis

Weekends here need a beer
Gotta get out of here
On the road one my hog
Acting like a dog
It's and identity crisis
An Identity crisis

All weekend long having fun
Riding in the sun
Seeing sights that I like
While sitting on my bike
It's and Identity crisis
An identity crisis

Sunday night come
The fun is done
Sleeping in my home
Feeling like a drone
It's an Identity crisis
An identity crisis

I see in this the significance of the absence of what vocation occupies the subject during the week- the majority of the hours of living. The subject focuses on what happens beyond the hours of everyday labor, as if he would not be confined by the identity forced on him by the 40 hour work week. I choose to see the road not as a metaphor, but as an avenue (no pun intended) by which the subject may express his identity.

He finds who he desires to be in the freedom of the road, which can be found on the weekend. Obviously, these two identities are in conflict, creating the rhythmic repetition of the identity crisis.

NIcely done, and congratulations on Poet of the Day!

Identity crisis, we all have them at one time or another, it's a despairing time of self-realization. Going within ourselves looking for illusive answers shadowing our minds, finding in the end that we have lost our interior spirituality and it has left us searching for what we've lost. Great insight and imagery, could definitely identify with your feelings and thoughts. Thank you for sharing. RoseAnn (Report) Reply

Identity crisis is a big problem.....the state in which we are having a body but which is void without a soul and that still work like a machine.....
I love this poem very much, because I too tasted it..
