Incredible Sundarbans Poem by Bireswar Halder

Incredible Sundarbans

In a bright moonlit night I am alone on deck of a houseboat
Anchored in middle of a creek in the incredible Sundarbans
Many more houseboats anchored around with colourful lights
Opening out peace and serenity, in midst of a cooling breeze.

The moonlight starts dancing on the stirring waters
To beautiful rhythms of noise of the lapping waves
The chorus of sounds of the merry insects around held me in thrall.
As if I am in a dreamland with melodious tunes of nature.

The waves are swinging and I lapse back to my childhood
It seems I am on a rocking cradle - a mother pulling its rope
An incredible joy and happiness of paradise on earth
I am completely speechless with the riot of natural beauty.

Mangroves on both sides welcome a change from busy life
They are out to soothe everybody with their shapes and forms
What a mystery, what a magic I enjoy in the atmosphere
I stare at full moon which uncovers nature's beauty fully.

A fascinated night relieves my body and mind slowly
As if a beautiful dream girl emerges and I'm contemplating her beauty
Only to enjoy and enjoy like a small child free from all complexities
I am completely in a speechless spell, I'm at the incredible Sundarbans.
