Keeping This Heart Lonely, But Safe Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Keeping This Heart Lonely, But Safe

Heart saying hold me closer, but mind saying no, not
wanting to be hurt once again, magically finding a
sense of loss that's mysteriously holding onto hope.

Knowing there is none in the future, wanting to free-
fall, head over heels in love with you, yet this mind
says no, don't do it, you'll be sorry once again.

Standing aside, afraid to give self to anyone this
side of life, understanding nothing but rejection and
loss through what was once such a happy occasion.

No longer tending to be what is needed in this life,
turning away, looking for the exit, not wanting to be
taken advantage of any longer.

Just being a lone she-wolf that exists in a life-long
solitude where this heart is safe in a quiet atmosphere
of beauty, lonely but not lost.
