Listening Thoughtfully Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Listening Thoughtfully

Pacing rhythms gaining momentum throughout the night
now being sung in an up and down rhythmic beat that
appeals to most of us tonight.

Wallowing down syncophant lines of yesterday, letting
them continue down streamlined positions of one another
in the darkness of night.

Lifting coverlets that have unfolded and covered people
throughout the night, giving one another gifts of wonder
as the night wears on.

Slipping on edges of rhythms as they find their way around
tables and chairs of a make-believe place that wants to be
made whole and into a special place for only we two to go.

When together, listening thoughtfully, taking chances, want-
ing to stay in close measures of one another all throughout
this earthly life of wonder.
