One Night On Bourbon Street Poem by Adam Jeffries

One Night On Bourbon Street

Shallow is the mind of the collective masses. Gathered here to hawk or to gawk, friendly elixirs numb the body of despair. Cloaking their spirits with the hunger for bones and flesh, decadence knows no boundary save the next benchmark to cross. Yet no amount of debauchery will change the reality that arrives with the morning dawn – that most of us are still wanting what we do not have, or have what we do not want. The crude crowd attracts the unknowing, searching for distraction, craving the satisfaction of a breast exposed, an award of appreciation bestowed, from the soul of the collective mass. With each seduction of our nobility comes the loss of that which can never be regained: Innocence.
